FAQ:
What is Free Geek?
Free Geek is a nonprofit organization based out of SE Portland that tackles two major issues: electronic waste and access to technology. Have an old and/or broken gadget laying around? Take it to Free Geek and it will either get recycled sustainably or refurbished and given to community members in need.
What am I allowed to donate?
While the Free Geek site in SE Portland takes donations of all kinds, Binary is only accepting laptops, smartphones, and tablets. The device can be in any condition, including broken/shattered.
Also note:
-Free Geek kindly requests that devices be 8 years or newer, if possible.
-The greatest community need is for laptops.
-Please, no other gadget donations (i.e. keyboards, routers, wires, etc.).
How many devices can I donate?
There is no limit on how many donations you can make. However, the $1 Pint redemption is limited to one per person, per day.
What about my device’s privacy?
Free Geek swipes devices clean in a highly secure setting. If your device is broken or you are unable to reset it, they will take care of it. Read more here: https://www.freegeek.org/take-action-donate-technology/data-security
I don’t have any devices to donate, can I still contribute?
Yes! $1 of every pint of Motherboard sold in November and December will be donated to Free Geek: drink Motherboard Milk Stout! We are also taking open monetary donations on behalf of Free Geek.
